Ball transfer unit marinare

So here is a simple recipe if you wish to have lubricant free ball transfer units. That is point some roboteers will be be screaming “Why Why do you want lubricant free bearings, that’s the last thing you want, these people are idiots”, and while I accept we have had the odd genuine idiotic moment while building this thing we really do need the bearing not to spread lubricant all over the thing they are bearing.

  • Take 2 bottles of the cheapest lemon juice you can find (we used Morrison’s own brand), empty into a suitable tub or container.
  • Place ball transfer units in the lemon juice.
  • Leave to soak for 5 – 10 mins
  • Remove Ball transfer units and wipe off excesses lemon juice and mineral oil with kitchen towel.
  • Place ball transfer units in a low pressure evaporation oven.
  • Reduce the pressure of the chamber until the boiling point of water is approx 60c
  • Heat oven to a little over 60c
  • Leave for 5 – 10 mins
  • Remove the now dry ball transfer units.
  • The lemon juice and mineral oil can be retained as the worlds worse vinaigrette, which could be used to help serve a bowl of swarf.
